Hike Hobcaw: Alderly Landing. This approximately 2 mile hike begins at the Hobcaw Barony Discovery Center parking lot and continues through pine and hardwood forests to Alderly Landing. Highlights and discussion will revolve around an abandoned rice field. Learn of the process of growing and processing rice as well the history of the workers and their home lives. The slave cabin at Alderly will be viewed from the exterior (Exertion level: High impact – walking on rough terrain, standing for long periods of time). Hobcaw Barony Discovery Center requires visitors to wear face coverings when entering the Discovery Center as well as ALL other buildings on the tours. Participants are strongly encouraged to wear face coverings during outdoor programs as well, since adequate social distancing is often difficult to maintain.
