Enjoy a stroll through a longleaf pine stand on Hobcaw Barony, looking for indications of upcoming spring! Learn of the habitat of the pine stand, as well as of the elusive and endangered red-cockaded woodpeckers that inhabit the longleaf stand while viewing some nest cavities from afar. Appropriate for all ages. Participants will need to dress for the weather and insects, as well as wear close-toed shoes. Participants may want to bring: hat, bug spray, and water. (Exertion level: Medium impact- walking on uneven terrain, hiking). Hobcaw Barony Discovery Center requires visitors to wear face coverings when entering the Discovery Center as well as ALL other buildings on the tours. Participants are strongly encouraged to wear face coverings during outdoor programs as well, since adequate social distancing is often difficult to maintain.
